Oxygen for Democracy Award

The The Oxygen for Democracy, Peace and Democracy Award is an annual initiative established to posthumously honouring individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of Democracy and Peace in Cyprus.

Each year granted to one Greek Cypriot and one Turkish Cypriot citizen, the award reflects a shared commitment to recognising and preserving legacies of those who devoted their lives to dialogue, reconciliation, and civic courage. 

Award Ceremony 2025

The winners of the award for the second year were announced during the Opening Ceremony of Cyprus Forum 2025, held on October 1, 2025, at the Old City Hall in Nicosia..

Τα Awarded in honour of Xenofon Kallis and Türkan Azizrecognizing their contribution to peace, justice, and human rights in Cyprus.

Türkan Aziz

Türkan Aziz was a pioneer in Cypriot healthcare and became the first Turkish Cypriot head nurse at Nicosia General Hospital after 1960.
Her leadership skills and decisive contribution to the eradication of malaria during the British colonial period left an indelible mark on public health and the empowerment of women in the fields of medicine and nursing.

Xenofon Kallis

Xenophon Kallis, from Dali, dedicated his life to finding the missing persons of Cyprus. A sociologist educated in London, he served as head of the Missing Persons Service and advisor to humanitarian organisations, earning the respect of both communities for his humanity and dedication to finding the truth.
