PoliCY Talks – Episode 9

In the 9th episode of PoliCY Talks, we sit down with Berk Tansel, a former Oxygen for Democracy collaborator, and Amalia Avraam, former President of Cyprus Youth Diplomacy and current Vice President of the Youth Board of Cyprus. Together, we explore diplomacy from a youth perspective, focusing on intercommunal relations in Cyprus. We dive into the differences in views between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots, the state of negotiations on the Cyprus issue, and whether Cyprus can position itself as a regional diplomatic hub.

Berk and Amalia share unique perspectives on:

Diplomatic rhetoric – Is what we hear pragmatic, or just a communication tool?

The state of negotiations – Where do things stand, and is there room for stronger talks?

The rule of law in the Turkish Cypriot community – How do governance and legal frameworks differ?

Cyprus’ regional role – Can Cyprus position itself as a key diplomatic bridge between Europe and the Middle East?

Beyond the political and institutional aspects, we also discuss the social impact of diplomacy and how young people from both communities can shape the future of peace and cooperation in Cyprus.
